The Ards Peninsula

For our overseas visitors, the Ards Peninsula (part of County Down), - is that long tract of land that reaches out into the Irish Sea just east of Belfast, and to the south of Belfast Lough. Known locally as 'The Low Country' it is bordered on its western side by the lovely Srangford Lough and has been disgnated as an area of outstanding natural beauty. The gateway to the peninsula is Newtownards, a thriving market town, overshadowed by Scrabo Tower, it is the seat of local government. A drive around the peninsula would take you through Greyabbey and Kircubben, Portaferry, Portavogie, Cloughey, Ballyhalbert, Ballywalter, Millisle and Donaghadee. Carrowdore is located between Millsile and Greyabbey. There is much of historical and natural interst throughout the peninsula, and the pictures below are only a small selection of its many charms. Next time you are in Northern Ireland on vacation, come and see us! Fair fae ye tae the Airds!
